The Taser is one of the default items of a Police Officer. It is a non-lethal weapon that holds an electrical charge.

Overview

The Taser can be used in attempting to identify guilty prisoners. If a prisoner ragdolls, this shows the player is guilty and can be arrested. However due to the long reload, it is generally recommended to use the Baton or Sword. If it manages to hit a guilty prisoner or criminal, it will ragdoll them for 3 seconds. This time sometimes varies due to lag on some servers. The taser has low accuracy, low range, and a long reload time.

On October 3rd, 2022, the Taser was revamped with a new design and effects, new target effect, and reload progress indicators. [1]

Targets

Players who can be tased. Immune to being tased.
Guilty prisoners. Guilty prisoners and criminals getting out of seats.
Any criminal on land. Guilty prisoners and criminals who are already ragdolled.
Criminals using a Jetpack. Other police officers.
Guilty prisoners and criminals in vehicle. Innocent prisoners.

Trivia

  • In real life, it is possible to kill someone with a charge of electricity from a taser. In Jailbreak, however, the taser does no damage, as it just stuns players. In real life, the person stunned will be down for minutes, maybe even hours. In addition, real-life tasers could sometimes cause the victim to enter cardiac arrest, and perhaps even kill them.
  • The Taser was the Laser Electrocutor gear item in the Roblox catalog, which used to have the name "Taser," just like in Jailbreak. The same model is used in Prison Life.
  • This is 1 of 6 items that are exclusive to the Police, the others being Handcuffs, Road Spikes, SWAT Phone, SWAT Attire, and the Riot Shield.
  • There is a glitch where a prisoner can spawn in with the Taser and Handcuffs, after switching from the police team to the prisoner team.
  • The Taser can automatically force criminals to hop out and ragdoll out of vehicles that don't have any car protection around them, like the Dirtbike, Patrol or the Volt, assuming if you land the Taser shot.
  • A Taser can be used on players sitting on a chair; they will still ragdoll just like if they were standing.
  • Criminals/Prisoners could have obtained a taser by being a Police Officer and placing the taser in their respective cell's Bed Drawer, but now Tasers, along with other police-exclusive items and keycards, cannot be placed in bed drawers.
  • The hot bar image for the Taser is different from the in-game taser.
  • Tased players will follow the laws of physics, meaning they will move down slopes unwillingly.
  • The taser will not work on innocent prisoners, however, it will work on guilty prisoners. This makes the taser a pseudo-guilt detector.
  • The taser will not ragdoll players flying on a Jetpack.
    • Instead they will fall out of the sky.
  • In the March 2020 Sniper Update, the crosshair was missing and it had to be aimed with the mouse cursor. This was patched in the Flintlock Bonus Update.
    • Despite having a crosshair, it does not have the aiming system found in guns.
  • If a criminal/prisoner is too far away, the taser won’t stun the criminal/prisoner.
  • The taser has arguably the worst accuracy of all weapons in the game, and is getting worse over time.
    • When the Taser was revamped, this issue was mostly fixed.
  • In Miscellaneous Update 111, the Taser and Handcuffs gained the ability to use camera lock, just like guns.
  • If the player puts away and takes out the Taser while it is reloading, the taser will instantaneously reload. the same applies to other guns but is more noticeable in weapons with a slow reload speed, like the Forcefield Launcher.
